La Brea Tar Pits

Hunter has been learning about extinct creatures in school and is now obsessed with them! He loves dinosaurs, mammoths, saber-tooth cats (yes cats...we learned tigers is incorrect!), dire wolves etc. He even made his own Prehistoric Park with extinct creatures, mostly dinosaurs, where he plays with them, feeds them, talks to them, and he even punishes them! One day we were watching a movie and the dinosaurs kept "getting rowdy and were knocking the lid off their park" and when Hunter "found out" it was T-Rex causing all the mayhem...Oh boy! Knowing T-Rex is a meat eater, he punished him by feeding him rice for his next meal!

Michael and I figured this would be a great opportunity to take the kids to a couple museums. So, last Saturday, we went to the Natural History Museum. After paying for parking (money we never got back), we went inside to buy our tickets only to find a sign that said the dinosaur exhibit was closed! We asked for how long and we were told til 2010! What!?

Well, bummed, we next decided to go from there to the La Brea Tar Pits so Hunter could check out the mammoths! We had such a great day together and Hunter just loved it! At the gift shop he bought 2 mammoths(because they travel together), a saber-tooth cat, a dire wolf, and some tar goo to make another Extinct Park!

The kids outside with the mammoths stuck in the tar!

Hunter couldn't look at anything in the museum until he could see this mammoth upclose. It would move and make sounds, too!

Here the kids are putting their hands in a mammoth footprint!
